IN A NUTSHELL

We’re on the search for a Junior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure high availability and minimal disruption of our business-critical infrastructure, systems, and devices. You’ll take a proactive approach to manage system health, including monitoring, automation, and issue resolution.

You’ll assist in our ongoing efforts to standardize our environments, streamline our continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and champion a “configuration as code” philosophy across our business. In this role, you’ll be working closely with our Site Reliability Manager as well as your Technology Team and Data Team colleagues, to improve workflow efficiency.

YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU…

• Have recently graduated or have a couple of years of experience in an IT role
• Possess an understanding of Linux (Ubuntu/Debian preferred)
• Are familiar with the AWS environment
• Have a basic understanding of infrastructure as code practices, particularly with Terraform
• Have encountered configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet or Ansible
• Possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for getting to the root cause of complex issues
• Are deeply motivated to learn and improve (continuously)
• Get excited about great ideas, wherever they come from – books, blogs and podcasts, technical and non-technical, lunch table conversations.

IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK YOU MIGHT HAVE…

• Executed a deployment using Terraform
• Helped plan an upgrade path for a heavily used AWS service
• Worked on a pilot program for our applications to utilise some of the latest product offerings available on Amazon Web Services
• Updated packages on operating systems
• Noticed that in specific circumstances some build failures weren’t sending notifications and fixed it
• Sat in on one of our Friday afternoon demo sessions, and learnt something new

We’ve moved to using Nix to standardise our development environments; we value the reproducibility and quick setup times this has given our team. We’ve transitioned to Terraform as our principal tool for managing our infrastructure. We’re extending the “configuration as code” mindset not only to our infrastructure but to our CMS content and product catalogue.

You can expect to learn a lot while you’re here and we will support your development with an allocated learning budget, hack days, and company-wide learning events. The Technology Team runs a book club, having regular discussions about books that anyone in the team can nominate. We’ve discussed books like Don’t Make Me Think and The Pragmatic Programmer, and worked through courses together. There will be plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge; we always have interesting projects on the go that will challenge you.

LOCATION AND HOURS

This is a full-time role based in our Collingwood office (with wfh flexibility)
